I've never heard of a HUGE Tortoise!

Galapagos Island.

I learnt that Galapagos Island is very close to the equator which means that Galapagos is a very hot island. Galapagos is a small island just like the other forty island that are part of the Pacific Ocean.
I know that..
  • On Galapagos Island, there are hammerheads sharks, huge manta rays and sea turtles and many sea lions. They sometimes like to doze on the shore when the sun is out or the others like to just play in the water.
  • The galapagos island sea water is really cold and the weather is really hot.
  • There are huge and huge tortoises in the world at the Charles Darwin Research Station. Which Charles Darwin was a famous scientists who sailed and became a famous scientists.
  • Since they found the biggest tortoise in the world, the word 'galapagos' is called 'tortoise' in Spanish.

Wow, it has sprouted!

Planting a Seed: 21.9.2017

  • Find a yoghurt pot or a ordinary container
  • Using a sharp compass, place holes on the bottom of the yoghurt pot or the container
  • Then test your yoghurt pot under water
  • Add one layer of the stones into the yoghurt pot/container
  • Add into the yoghurt pot, fertilizer soil.
  • Poke a hole in the centre of the soil and add in your seed (make sure the hole in the centre so it doesn't grow crooked.
  • Cover it up with the soil that you've pushed to the side, gently but not hard.

Art is very fun!

Last day of Visual Art:

Today was the last day for the year 7 students to do art with Mr Blankenaar.  All art - work needed to be finished before the end of the day. There were many art - work to be done such as our parody, singlet, tiles, and finishing off the piece of work called 'The Busker'. Everyone had lots of work to be done, so everyone was on the move.

Before the students could start on anything else, The Busker needed to be finished because it was going to be finished faster than the other works. The teacher gave full instructions for the students to write into the paper about what the picture was about. Obviously, the children would write down that the old man was busking for money because he was out of money and needed to pay bills. But students with other ideas, it was very different.

The next work was the tiles, there were only six children that could do the tiles because everybody else needed to finish off the singlet. The tiles were about cutting out shapes and placing foil above it. But obviously that part was already done long time ago. Today, the tiles needed to be painted and dabbed with paper towel again. The colours were gold and blue. But as the children dabbed it with the paper towel, it showed a bit of silver. It looked fabulous!

The last activity for the day was the parody. A parody was about mocking another piece of work by drawing it again and changing the characters into different characters, and making everything look very different from the real picture. This picture was about four people crossing the road. Every time, some if the pictures looked more funnier and funnier. Not all students were able to start on the parody because the first priority was the singlet and that was also the first assessment to be finished and out of the way.

Meanwhile, the students needed to clean the classroom up because it was time to go back to school with all the wonderful artwork that each and every child made with the colourful colours. All bits of paper on the floor, colouring pencils, and everything else needed to  be picked up from the floor for the next class. Every student said, "Bye! Thank you, we had lots of fun with you!" to Mr Blankenaar who was the visual art teacher that can teach marvellous art projects.

I am looking for a teacher that can teach many things just like Jesus taught the people and his Apostles. A teacher that is able to use a variety of ways to teach. A teacher that is able to teach so that the people could follow on what Jesus did like being kind, showing love and reaching out to help the poor and those in need.

Walht: incorporate the qualities that Jesus would look for in an apostle to continue spreading the word of God today.

Facing and Meeting Challenges - Camp 2017

It was a very cold day, however, the sun came out most of the time on for our camp challenge on Friday the 23rd of June 2017


The long-awaited day had finally arrived and all the Room 8 students went to Camp at Long Bay known as MERC (Marine Education Reserve Centre)  All students arrived at Camp and started off the day with an introduction.


The students were split into two groups. Both groups did the same activities but were rotated across these at different times. Before we set off with our groups to do our first activities, we were introduced to our instructors, Akari and Jono.


As Akari and Jono talked to us about MERC and asked us questions, they also talked to us about our first two activities.


Abseiling was my group's first activity. I felt very scared so I cried in tears because I thought I could not make it to the top and to the bottom. But really, we only had to climb down and that was it. The wall did not look that high but when I stood up at the top it was REALLY high. When It was my turn, I felt super scared so I just went slowly and slowly until in shock, my foot touched the ground. I felt amazed that I made it to the bottom with a little bit of encouragement and tears.


When it was my group's turn for the Giant Ladders, I felt afraid because I thought that I would not make it to the top, it really was high up and each step was further away from the previous one.  Our instructor Akari, gave the instructions of how giant ladder works and how to put on our gear such as the harness and the helmet. There were many importances of each gear, so we had to listen very carefully. The harness was a bit different to the harness we wore during abseiling.


As the minutes felt as seconds, it was my TURN to climb up the really giant long ladder. My partner and I helped each other out when we needed help because it was a bit tricky for us to climb. We climbed up and up with help and encouragement. However, we couldn't make it to the top but at least we made it just to the one before the top ladder. It was now time for us to climb back down to the ground just like a frog. It was really hard and scary for me because I thought I would fall, however, the anchor people were holding me safely and tightly. As I climbed up, I was a bit happy because I was climbing up really long giant ladders


At last, I felt like a champion climbing up and down just like I’d climbed up on a normal ladder! And I also felt happy that I climbed and achieved my goals for the day, I had faced the challenges and overcome my fear!

WALT inform my audience about what we did at technicraft.

Image result for powerpuff girls blossomAgain the students continued making their movable feature. By making a movable feature, this included painting and outlining the character. By outlining our character, we used a burner which burns the outline of the character.

Students then made themselves split into different groups, a painting group, students waiting to use the burner and another group of students waiting to use the scroll saw. A scroll saw is a tool used for cutting out wood into the shape that is wanted.

It did not take a long time for the students to paint their character but it did take a long time for the paint to dry. A lot of students were in line for using the scroll saw and the burner because they worked hard to finish the drawing of the character. Some students
had to wait patiently to use the burner or the scroll saw.

As minutes felt like seconds, students were able to make another one because they worked hard to finish their first movable feature. Making a movable feature was very difficult because the size of the character needed to be big so that it could be easy to make one part of the character movable.

The movable feature made a really good outcome. However, the movable feature was not to be taken home because most of the nuts and bolts were not in as well as it needed to be dry because the spray was very wet and sticky.

It was now time to pack up. Students picked up the rubbish, swept the floor and cleared out all table and the floor to check if there was any big rubbish on the floor. Rubbish all around the room needed to be picked up and into the bin because it would looked untidy because all the rubbish were all over the floor especially under the scroll saw and the tables.

The main idea in this book is that we need to take care of the cockles and also that it is important for the people to check to see  if there are less or heaps of cockles. It is such a worry that if there is less cockles,
it is affecting the parts of the environment.

We need to check the health of the estuary every three years to see if there are a low amount or a high amount of the cockles,

This is about making good choices and not bad choices because we will get and find the consequence.


Activity:
Write down why the main idea is to make good choices.


Individual:
It is very important to make good choices because if we don't, then we will face the consequences. If we don't make the correct choices, sometime we will be in trouble. Sometime when we make good choices, we normally have fun by continuing with fun things. So it is very important to make good choices. We should alway choose to make the right choices besides the bad choices.


The main idea is the most important, idea in a paragraph. It states the purpose and sets the direction of the paragraph. The main idea may be stated in the sentence of the paragraph.


What was the purpose of why the author wrote this?
The purpose of why the author wrote this was because we should be aware of making bad choices and we should make good choices because if we don't, then we will face the consequences.

Have you tried skateboarding?

On Monday the  20th of February, my class and I went down to the bottom court for skateboarding with Andrew and Aidan. While we were learning the skills and the techniques of skateboarding, Miss Dines took some photos.


First we learnt how to put on the gear. Each one of us put the knee pad on, then the elbow and the wrist pads and then the helmet. We were all learning why it is very important to put the gear on. Then Andrew told us to line up on the yellow line and take one of the skateboards and stand back on the yellow line. When we all stood at the yellow line, we were told what we were going to do before we started riding our skateboards.


After we were told the instructions, we all rode our skateboards back and fourth the court a lot of times. Miss Dines told us to slow down if we don't really know how to ride a skateboard because some of us doesn't ride skateboards when we are bored. After we rode our skateboards slowly, we stopped for the next class to come and have their turn.

Later we put the gear and the skateboards away to where we got them properly and went back to the classroom.
