What is a volcano?

Why do volcanoes erupt?

A Volcano is a mountain with vents through which molten lava, ash, cinders and gas erupts sometimes violently.

Volcanoes occur along the boundaries of the Earth's plates, where molten rock is forced upwards by the magma. Some Volcanoes are extinct, others are dormant, and a few are active. The movement of the volcano burns down houses and cars with the hot lava.

When a Volcano erupts, the ash, gases and rocks crack the Earth's crust. After they crack, the lava comes up from the magma chamber. As soon as the lava comes out, it will burn anything and anyone in the way.

Always stay away from a Volcano because they are very dangerous.

Learning Intention: We are learning to write an explanation.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the correct structure of an explanation, starting with an introduction, followed by explanation sequence, effect and a concluding sentence about why volcanoes erupt.
