I feel you, Tessa😔

One day there was a girl named Tessa, she was excited to go to school because it was a
opportunity for her to sign up for ballet classes. She wanted to do ballet because it was her dream,
and she'd been practising her whole life. She was SUPER excited to go to school, so she packed all her
lunch and went out the door to wait for her mum to drop her off to school. Tessa was very lucky because
she was the only child.

As they pulled up into parking lot of the school, Tessa got out and ran to her classroom. That was how excited
she was. When she sat down on her desk, before the day started, Mrs Tumbler was explaining the information
about ballet classes. Tessa was really excited, and as Mrs Tumbler was explaining, the big day of The Ballet Recital
was the day that Tessa and her family were planning to go out of town to visit their Grandma.

Later on that day, Tessa went home feeling sad. She was thinking about how mum and dad would react. And
when she got home, she went upstairs to her room and changed from her uniform. Tessa was thinking of ways
to tell her parents that The Ballet Recital  was on the day that they were planning to go to visit grandma out of town.
She found a way, so she went and told her mum and her mum was thinking about what they should do.

The next day when Tessa came back from school, her mum made a decision that she wasn't allowed to go to t
he Ballet Recital because they needed to go and see grandma because she was sick. Mum felt very sorry for Tessa,
but there was no choice because they had already promised Grandma that they will meet on that day. Tessa went
upstairs to her room and cried. Everyday from now on, when Tessa went to school she felt sad. When she went to
school one day feeling sad, she told her teacher that she can't be in ballet because on the big day, she will be
gone to see her sick grandma out of town. Her teacher said,

"Oh poor you, you know what, you can still take ballet classes."

"OMG, thank you thank you thank you so much." Tessa said with excitement.

Tessa went back home very excited and happy.When she got home she told her mum that she can take
ballet classes and doesn't need to attend the Ballet Recital. Her mum was very happy too now that she can
still learn something that she has been waiting and dreaming for.

Every week from now and then, Tessa went to ballet classes. When it was time for them to go to visit
grandma out of town, Tessa would still practise so that she could achieve her goals. Whenever she was free,
she would practise what she was taught at school. But some days she had to go with her grandma to go around
because they haven't been together since Tessa was 3 years old. So they all decided that they can all go out for a day
before it was time they leave. They all hopped in the car and went around town, to the park, movies and to the sea
world park. It was an exhausting day for them that they came back and had a great big rest. To end the day, they
decided to have a movie night at home, so they did.

The next day, it was time that they leave. It was so sad and tearing becauses grandma didn't want them
to leave and they didn't want to leave. But it was time they had to get back because of school and work.
Anyways, they planned to go back to grandma at the end of the year and spend Christmas and New Years with her.

Meanwhile they were all settled into their everyday doings. From now and then, Tessa would call grandma
to see how she is. Grandma would be so happy that they called because she really misses them. But now,
Tessa still takes ballet classes even tho the Ballet Recital has finished. Tessa was so grateful everyday because
she would learn new skills and dances at school.

Do You Know What Needs To Be In A Narrative ?

Features of a Narrative :

1. When we write a narrative, we first of all start by planning our writing: Planning

our writing is when we plan what are focus is going to be or what the subject will be.

Part of planning is what each paragraph will be focused on and organizing what you

will be writing about that paragraph so you wouldn't have to repeat it.

1. Second of all, we prepare ourselves to write a complication so that people

can read more so they can find out what and how the resolution will be.

This will also set off the setting and events that will be sequenced.

1. Then you start writing what happened in each sequence.

Each paragraph should only have one focus. Each sequence will explain

how the complication gets solved.

1. When you have written what happened in each paragraph,

you have come to an end where you should have already written

the resolution and then the end will be called a conclusion. The

conclusion is where you write the ending about the story. How the

characters felt or giving suggestions on the complication and resolution.

1. Orientation - The setting which will be the who, what, where,

why and how which will give a hint to the audience so they know what the story will be about.

1. Dilemma - Complication - this is the problem that will be sequenced in each paragraph.
2. Resolution - this is the resolution which will be towards the end so

people know how the problem was solved and how the characters felt.

1. Conclusion - the conclusion is the ending where you write all the gathered information to a ending.

What A Great Life Nelson Has Had … WOW !

Nelson Mandela is former and first black president of South Africa. He was born in Mvezo, South Africa on the 18 of July 1918, and died on the 5 of December 2013. He has 4 daughters and 2 sons which equal to 6 children. Nelson's occupation is being a writer and a president. The Nobel Peace Prize was won by Nelson Mandela in 1993. He took the education from Wesleyan College, Clarkebury Boarding Institute, University of London, University College of Fort Hare, University of Witwatersrand, and Johannesburg. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, is his full name and his middle name which is his forename has the definition of troublemaker.

The early life and family career of Nelson Mandela  was having the education at the college of Fort Hare and Wesleyan College with Oliver Tambo. Nelson Mandela was very good and focused when he was at school and during college. He enjoyed boxing and running. At Fort Hare University Nelson studied law and had left university at 1939 and after student protests about the way it was run. When Nelson's father had passed away, Nelson was still young at the age of 9 years old. To whom this may offend but Mandela had married three times, which the first ended in 1957 and the second which was divorced in 1996 and the last at the age of 81 with Grace Machel. He retired from being a president because he wanted quiet and time to take off for family gatherings and time. He was baptised as a methodist.

As you may have heard, but before Mandela was a president, he was put into jail for 27 years as known for a major reason. The reason why Mandela was in jail was facing the government that was committing egregious human abuses against South Africans. He had been released from prison in the year of 1990 and went to lead the way for the abolition of apartheid in 1994. He was elected as South Africa's first black president the same year which was 1994.The most and best outstanding accomplishment after suffering years of abuse as he was in jail. When Nelson was set free, de Klerk agreed that there would be no more fighting which Nelson agreed to and was free from prison.

In 1991, Mandela became leader of the ANC. In the 1994 elections, all black people in South Africa were able to vote for the first time and the ANC won the election and a new government took over. In the month of May 1994, Nelson Mandela became South Africa's first black president. It was not until 1990 that Mandela was released. Shortly after his release from prison Nelson Mandela became ANC President. When black Africans were allowed to vote the ANC Mandela led party won the election and Nelson Mandela became the first black President of South Africa.Through and with Nelson Mandela, ANC finally won the victory they had envisaged for so long. When Mandela stepped down from the presidency in 1999 it was to ANC president Thabo Mbeki.

Nelson Mandela has lived for many years and went through many lifetime stories that were important to himself and his family. Nelson Mandela was the first and foremost black South African president.

WALT inform my audience about what we did at technicraft.

Again the students continued making their movable feature. By making a movable feature, this included painting and outlining the character. By outlining our character, we used a burner which burns the outline of the character.

Students then made themselves split into different groups, a painting group, students waiting to use the burner and another group of students waiting to use the scroll saw. A scroll saw is a tool used for cutting out wood into the shape that is wanted.

It did not take a long time for the students to paint their character but it did take a long time for the paint to dry. A lot of students were in line for using the scroll saw and the burner because they worked hard to finish the drawing of the character. Some students

had to wait patiently to use the burner or the scroll saw.

As minutes felt like seconds, students were able to make another one because they worked hard to finish their first movable feature. Making a movable feature was very difficult because the size of the character needed to be big so that it could be easy to make one part of the character movable.

The movable feature made a really good outcome. However, the movable feature was not to be taken home because most of the nuts and bolts were not in as well as it needed to be dry because the spray was very wet and sticky.

It was now time to pack up. Students picked up the rubbish, swept the floor and cleared out all table and the floor to check if there was any big rubbish on the floor. Rubbish all around the room needed to be picked up and into the bin because it would looked untidy because all the rubbish were all over the floor especially under the scroll saw and the tables.

Do you know anything about science?

Today, Room 8 went to Pakuranga Intermediate for Technicraft. When we got there, we all hopped of the bus and walked quietly to our classes.

Once we got to our classes, we finished off the last piece of work . When we finished off our work, we drew the methylated spirits with the test tube that had the golden syrup in it. After we drew the methylated spirits, we talked about the scientific diagram and why it is important.

When morning tea was finished, my partner Soane and I learnt about solid, liquid and gases. To learn about solid, liquid and gases, we used a Chromebook to answer quizzes that were on a website that we were given.

We used two Chromebooks between each table to use the website that we were given to learn and answer quizzes about solid, liquid and gasses. We had to do all the different kinds of activity on each part and then answer the quiz to see if we really understand what solid, liquid and gas is about.

Then Miss Gawith told us to pack up by putting the paper on her table and wiping the table because it had little pieces of rubber on it. Miss Gawith then told Rhonda and Christian to take back the Chromebooks to Room 6. Next we went out of the classroom and went back to school.

I got some new friends!

Today I moved into a new class at St Patrick's school which is Room 8. My teacher's name is Mrs Dines. I also met a new person, her name is Kayla. She likes to read comic books and draw pictures. Kayla is the only child in her family and likes the colour blue. Basketball is Kayla's favourite sport to play.

Mmm, that's delicious!

On Saturday the 12th of November, my family and I went to my uncle's house because he asked us to go over to his house   so that the gentlemen could have their meeting about my uncle's grave. We went to my uncle's house in my dad's van.

As soon as we arrived, we all hopped out of the car and went inside to see who was there because there weren't any cars outside. When we got to the front door, it was only my two uncles that were inside laughing. My sisters asked my uncle, "Where are the rest of the family?" He answered, "They've gone to the hospital because Mele has just given birth to a little girl." We thought that my uncle was lying to us but he wasn't. We were  all very shocked.

Later on, my other uncles came  over with their wives and their children. I was really happy because my uncles brought my cousins over which meant that we we could play volleyball. When we went to the front of the house to play volleyball, my male cousins went to the deck to cook the food on the BBQ. I was a little bit disappointed at my cousins because they didn't let me hit the ball. We played and played until the sky became dark.

After a while, three of my male cousins came and called us to go inside because it time for us to have some food.  We rushed inside because we were all so hungry. After we went inside, we all grabbed a plate and scooped our favourite food onto our plates. On my plate I had, a sausage, three small chicken  drumsticks and one small piece of hot casava. Together, my cousins and I said  food grace before we had eaten our food.

Afterwards we went outside again to play volleyball because the adults continued their meeting. My uncle was telling my other uncles that the grave has now gone up to $500 because we haven't paid for it in the last couple months. We were happy to go back outside and play so we could see who would win. Mele, my cousin was shouting, "Our team is going to win!"

Before long, it was time for us to go because it was time for my uncle to go back to the hospital for his rehabilitation, so I shouted out loudly to my family, "Bye, bye I will see you tomorrow!" They also said bye to me as well. We all waited until my uncle left the house so we could leave after him.

I was very tired after that game of Volleyball! I hope my team can win next time.

Get well soon aunty!

After church on Sunday the 30th of October, most of my uncles, aunties, cousins, sisters, nephews, mum, dad and I went to the Auckland Hospital because my aunty was in hospital. We all went to the hospital in our vans and cars that belonged to my uncle, dad or my cousin. All of my cousins and I were really excited to see Malieta because we don't really like staying at home because it feels weird without her.


As soon as my dad parked the car at the drop off area, my mum was the first one to get out to go in the elevator while the rest of us had to wait for my dad because he went away and parked the car.  I was excited to go but I was scared to go by myself just in case someone comes and takes me away. After my dad parked  the van, we all went to the elevator so we could go up to level seven. Then we got to level seven and we all went  up to Malieta to give her a kiss  on the cheek. After that, my sister and I left to go to  the whanau room because it was a bit crowded in Malieta's  room.


After a while, my cousins arrived with my uncle. I was really excited to see them because my sisters and I were feeling a bit lonely in the whanau room . When we were waiting for other to arrive, w munched on  some chips that my mum had brought for us. My cousins and I were sitting next to the vending machine because the television didn't work in the whanau room. We were all shocked when my cousin told us that my aunty was going to die but my uncle tapped her chest and she started to breathe again. I was about to cry with the others because it would be very sad for everyone if she did pass away.


Soon we saw my uncle and Aunty walking pass us and we all said, "Hi aunty and uncle." We also kept sitting next to the vending machine until my cousin that we should go live on her phone so we could talk to my cousin who was also online because it was very boring. While they were chatting, I went to check on my Aunty incase she needed something. She didn't need anything because she was busy talking to my uncles and aunties.


A while later,  it was time for us to go because it was nearly night time. The nurse came and told us that it time for my aunty to get some sleep because she has dialysis the next morning. My aunty didn't want to sleep because she was happily talking and laughing about the good news with my aunties and uncles. We all gave a kiss to my aunty and said, "Goodbye, we will see you tomorrow after school."


It was a good day visiting my aunty because my aunty  was happy and excited to see her big family.

Poor Lightning!

Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the structure of a narrative starting with an orientation, followed by the complication, then the events and finally the resolution to write my story 'Let's say sorry!'.

Mmm, that dessert was delicious!

Yay! We're going to see Jessica (my cousin) on Saturday the 10th of September because she was having an unveiling. My family and I woke up very early because we had to make some crab salad, taro and yam before we left the house. I couldn't wait to go because I wanted to see my uncle, nana and also Jessica because it has been a long time since I've seen them.

As soon as we left home in our eight seater van, my uncle rang and said, "Church is starting now, are you guys nearly here?" My dad replied in a rushed voice, "Yeah we're nearly there, we have just left home." So dad quickly turned off the phone so he could drive us to church.

When we arrived, we all lined up to receive the Eucharist. After everyone received the Eucharist, my aunty told us that lunch is after the unveiling so we will have to come back to the hall that is next to the church. Then everyone left church to go to the Manukau Memorial Garden for the unveiling.

Eventually, everyone arrived at the garden. It was only my dad and I that went in while the rest of the family waited in the van because the car had to be parked far away there were a lot people. I only went to see the grave and then I came back so my cousin, sisters and I to go and see my uncle and nana who were buried much closer to the van.

Next we all went back to the Holy Cross hall for lunch. My stomach was rumbling because I didn't have breakfast. I talked about my cousin, sister and I visiting my uncle and nana's graves. I told my mum that the big flowers on my uncle's grave was missing.

When we got to the hall, I quickly hopped off and went to take the crab salad to my aunty in the kitchen.  While I was walking with the food, I stopped to say, "Hi" to my cousin Langi. Then my cousin came and told my family and I to take a seat because lunch wasn't ready.

After a while, my uncle announced that it's time for my uncle Mafua to say our opening and food prayer for us all. Langi had to call Mafua because he was outside talking with my uncle. When Mafua had finished saying our prayers, my uncle said, "Now can I have the McAuley girls to come up and scoop their food and eat." After they filled their plates, the rest of us filled up ours as well.

Before long, it was time for the candles to be represented. One representative from each family went up to hold the candle. I really wanted to go but my dad said for me to stay because it could be dangerous. The candle that my sister Anna held represented the time when Jessica started primary school.

YAY! After that, it was time for the children and the McCauley girls  to go and help themselves to get as many lollies or as much dessert as we wanted. My cousin was very shy so my sister Mel told me to go with her.

Later on, it was time for Mafua to say our final blessing. Then we had to go and help some people to put away the chairs and tables to where they belong. Once my family and I put away twenty chairs each, we went outside so that we could go to my uncle's house because my dad had to go there for their meeting.

My favourite part of Jessica's unveiling was when we went to see my uncle, my nana and Jessica because I have really missed seeing them!
