Physics !

Physics
Learning Intention: to conduct and investigate the properties of physics.

Today we conducted a mathematical investigation that involved properties of *physics.

Purpose: - To design a prototype to investigate the distance one glass marble that could roll
as the distance of our marble. (Investigating the distance of each marble).

Our group measured how far each of our marble went. We used 3 rulers to design a
device so that our marble wasn't able to jump off or that it would just roll down and
onto the concrete. The distances of our investigations were
  1. 5.45m
  2. 6.18m
  3. 5.26m

For our investigation, we used:
  • 1.5 meters of masking tape
  • 3 wooden meter long rulers
  • 3 - 4 glass marbles or similar rolling objects.
  • A white chalk

  1. We used the tape to tape the three rulers like a hallway/passage.
  2. Then we leaned the ruler onto the fixed object (fence) and we made
sure that it was *elevated (of 80 cm from the hard surface) from the fence to
the concrete so that it could increase the speed of the marble.
  1. We then rolled our 3 marbles one by one to see what the distance
of each marble was.
  1. After each marble has been measured, we used the chalk to mark
  2. where it each stopped.

The higher the ruler was elevated, the faster the marble was able to roll on the hard
surface. It made our investigation more easier for the marble to go further on the hard
surface.
These were our investigations for today!

*Definition of physics - science of the properties of matter and energy
*Elevated - slope

In this photo, we designed our passage for our marbles so that it could roll down and that
we are able to measure the distance of the marbles.

My Country .... Tonga!

Kingdom Of Tonga

Tonga is a kingdom that is particularly full of ethnic Tongans that speak foreign languages.
Tonga is part of 170 South Pacific Islands that are covered in tropical rain forests.
The population of this country is 107,122.

This country has over 50 islands where people are so traditioned by
wearing traditional clothing, and dressing up homewares with traditional
mats and curtains. In these islands, there are beautiful places such as the beaches
and mountains, but people really need to be careful because sometimes things that
you wouldn't want to happen might happen. This country of Tonga, is one of the hottest
countries in the world.

Some of these islands are thrused down or have had a  breakdown because of the present
cyclone. People in this country are trying their best to cover their houses for warmth or
from insects that can bite their skin because the flea bites just gets bigger and bigger. In
the past years, Tonga has had a big number of different kinds of weather such as earthquakes
and cyclones. As they are calling for their families to help with their local homes.

In the past years, Tonga have been having different kinds of temperatures that affect
people's breathing and health. It has occured over many times and have taken away
many precious lives of babies and adults. The temperature in Tonga has increased
over 0.1℃ during summer. And it is very hard for people to breathe because of the
hot weather.

Tonga has had over many bad temperatures and weather changes because it is
a country that is out of land.

Chelsea Buns.... Mmmmm Delicious !

Today, the year 8's went to cooking class at Pakuranga Intermediate School.
We made different kinds of breads such as Chelsea buns, Bread rolls, and Maori bread.
It was a experience for us year 8's to learn how to cook.

Chelsea Buns:
You will need:
  • ¼ cup of warm water
  • ½ teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of Edmonds active yeast
  • 3 ½ cups of Edmonds high grade flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 Tablespoon of sugar
  • ¾ cup of warm milk
  • 3 Tablespoons of melted butter
Filling:
  • 50g butter
  • ½ cup of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

To make chelsea buns you will need to:
  1. Place warm water and first measure of sugar in a small bowl. Stir to dissolve sugar.
  2. Sprinkle yeast over and leave for 10 minutes or until it is frothy
  3. Combine 3 cups of flour, and salt into a large bowl.
Then add in the measured sugar and set the remaining ½ cup of flour to the side.
  1. In the dry ingredients, make a well as you pour in the milk, melted butter, and the frothy yeast mixture.
Mix with a wooden spoon or the back of a cutlery knife until it forms a ball.
  1. Then turn it out into a light floured surface.
You are going to knead the dough until it is smooth and stretchable.
  1. You are then going to stretch it out and brush the melted butter on top.
As you have done that, sprinkle the cinnamon on top.
  1. Now roll the dough that has been sprinkle into little circles. And cut them out.
  2. It is now time to bake it for 25 minutes for 200℃ until it is golden.
Now it's time for you to enjoy.

Grow In The Virtues

Learning Intention: Recognise ways that people can grow in virtue
- The Rainbow Fish became so greedy he didn't want to share his
shiny's with the others, but at the ending he was able to share his shiny's
- When we grow in virtues, it means that we are showing a high standard of moral.
- Growth in virtue meaning that we show the correct behaviours towards others
and showing how it looks like.
- It is important because when we have some virtues in our lives because in the future we
are able to choose the right decision and how we can change our lives.
- Growth in virtue relate to the development of a person's faith and character means when
people have a bad attitude.
